SWEDISH DESIGN MOVES

SCROLL DOWN

SWEDISH DESIGN MOVES

There is more to Swedish design than the cool contemporary minimalism it is known for. Swedish design & creativity is driven by equality. That is why we design for the many and not just the privileged few. It is made to be used, and used again – not put on a pedestal or locked behind glass.

This philosophy influences everything, from the way we shape our society through architecture and city planning all the way down to the way we dress – and the objects we surround ourselves with. We use design as a tool to innovate and solve problems in unexpected ways for the future. And challenge norms to create a better everyday life for you, for us, for everyone.

That is why swedish design matters.

Stockholm Design Week

6-12 FEBRUARY 2017

Stockholm Design Week

6-12 FEBRUARY 2017

Press trip

Stockholm Design week, the most important week of the year for Swedish and Scandinavian design, is closing in. In the beginning of February 2017 designers, architects, fashion designers and other creative minds gather in the Swedish capital to meet, thrive and get inspired.

We see this as the perfect opportunity to introduce Swedish Design Moves – an initiative taken by the Swedish Government with the purpose to increase international interest for Swedish design, fashion and architecture. We know of your great interest and knowledge within these fields and would very much like to present, discuss and further develop our ideas with you in person.

Programme

A full program offering some of the best design experiences in Stockholm was organised, giving you the chance to experience some of the most interesting venues as well as meeting some of the most inspiring people that design Sweden has to offer right now.

See the photos from the press trip here.

SALONE DEL MOBILE
4-9 APRIL 2017

Sweden wants to shed light over Swedish initiatives taking place during Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone in Milan. They are the best stories we can tell about where, why and how Swedish design is moving forward right now and are excellent representatives for the motto of Swedish Design Moves: “Driven by equality; solutions by creativity”.

We will engage visitors with events, seminars, receptions with Swedish taste, sound and feeling. Workshops will be held in the up-and-coming district 5vie, in the middle of Milan’s old town, where we will also host exclusive late-night dinners inside the exhibition Armour mon Amour by Färg & Blanche in Teatro Arsenale.

sWEDISH DESIGN MOVES LONDON

This September, the London Design Fair will welcome the UK launch of Swedish Design Moves, a four-year programme to promote awareness of Swedish design, architecture and fashion around the world.

From 21-24 September 2017, visitors to the London Design Fair (part of September’s month-long London Design Festival) will be able to discover Swedish Design Moves first hand at the Swedish Design Pavilion – in partnership with Southern Sweden Creatives. Southern Sweden Creatives is a three year project supporting small and medium-sized cultural and creative companies from southern Sweden to grow internationally (currently the largest export-related project for the cultural and creative industries in Sweden) and will bring 11 design companies to exhibit at the pavilion. Lead project partner from Southern Sweden Creatives for the Swedish Design Pavilion is Form/Design Center - a hub for knowledge and inspiration in form, architecture and design.

All 11 exhibiting designers hail from Skåne and its trend-setting capital Malmö, currently seen as one of Sweden’s leading design hotbeds. Providing exhibition space for these forward-thinking, hot young designers, the Swedish Design Pavilion will highlight some of their boldest, most innovative design work. There will also be the opportunity to try Swedish food and drink at the Swedish Design Pavilion, including fika – the all-important Swedish tradition of enjoying coffee and cake with friends.

SWEDISH DESIGN MOVES new york

In association with Archtober 2017, Sweden presents a thematic program investigating different takes on Democratic Architecture.

Democratic urban space ensures the well-being of everyone, from children to the elderly. Sweden’s egalitarian society and intimate relation to nature generate balanced architectural solutions that accommodate both community desires and environmental needs.

The program – spanning several days at the Center for Architecture and Van Alen Institute from October 24 to 28 – will present and explore Swedish architecture and design solutions, with installations, conversations and charrettes addressing global contemporary challenges of architecture and urbanity.

The Malmö-based artist Ola Kalnins has received the prestigious assignment of painting a giant mural on a four-story building in Brooklyn, New York. This initaitive is supported by the City of Malmö.

Among the topics to be examined:

  • How can we collaborate internationally to find creative solutions for a sustainable and democratic built environment?

  • How can design thinking be applied globally to create democratic urban spaces?

  • How can Swedish and American democratic processes inspire architects and urban planners in New York and around the world?

A special thanks to all of you that visited and participated in the Swedish Design Moves New York program during Archtober on October 24-28.

Swedish Design Moves New York is a collaboration by Visit Sweden, Swedish Institute, the Consulate General of Sweden in New York, STHLMNYC and Architects Sweden.
